2004 British GT Championship - Rounds 11-12
Team Jedi Racing, More Disappointment at Silverstone!
Team Jedi Racing had more bad luck at Silverstone in this
weekend’s British GT Championship rounds.
Drivers Rob Horsfield and Frazer Corbyn were both optimistic
before arriving at Silverstone. The team had fitted a new
engine and re-built the car. Unfortunately a faulty fuel
injector meant that the Jedi Lotus never turned a wheel in
Friday’s free practice session. ‘Missing Friday’s
running left us with a mountain to climb!’ said team
owner Rob Horsfield.
Things went from bad to worse on the race day. The car was
overheating from the start in race one, and forced Rob Horsfield
to run at well below maximum revs. Then at the pit stop for
driver change, the team discovered that a rubber boot on
the drive shaft had split. This meant that the car could
not continue, as it would have resulted in a complete drive
shaft failure before the end of the race.
On closer inspection the team discovered that the drive shaft
had been weakened, and the team withdrew from race 2 because
a spare could not be located.
‘It was another weekend where silly problems stopped
us seeing if we could have been competitive,’ said
Frazer Corbyn. ‘I
was really disappointed not to get to drive in either race.
We have to focus on the reliability issues… and
then worry about the speed when we start finishing races
again.’
Team Jedi Racing is in action next at Thruxton on August
the 29th and 30th.
