Snetterton
2004 British GT Championship - Rounds 5-6
Team Jedi Racing lost their 100% finishing record by failing
to finish either race in this weekend’s British GT
Championship rounds at Snetterton.
Drivers Rob Horsfield and Frazer Corbyn
were optimistic of a points scoring finish after the car
worked perfectly and
appeared to be on the pace during free practice. "Frazer
and I were feeling very good about our chances of putting
some points on the board after the initial practice sessions,’ said
Rob Horsfield, ‘which made it even harder to take when
everything from then on went wrong for us."
Horsfield managed only one flying lap
in qualifying before the Lotus’ clutch began to slip
and he was forced to bring the car back for repairs. The
clutch needed to be
replaced, which meant a complete engine out and strip down.
"The team did a great job on the repair, I will be
buying them a very large crate of beer", said Frazer
Corbyn.
The repair took until 10pm on the Saturday
night, so Team Jedi did not even make the starting grid for
race one. With a new clutch fitted, the team had everything
crossed for race two.
Because they had missed qualifying for this race, the team
had to start from the very back of the grid. For the first
3 laps things were looking very good. Frazer was able to
overtake both the Vauxhall VX220 and the Holden Monaro
and keep the rest of the Cup Class pack in sight. Then
the Lotus
suffered another clutch related failure, this time the
slave cylinder unit failed. Frazer was able to continue
racing,
although at a slower pace because he had no clutch and
was frequently missing gears. The race came to end when
the car
pitted and Rob Horsfield was unable to get it out of the
pits with no clutch.
Team Jedi Racing was pleased to have support from ex Page
3 model Jakki Degg at Snetterton. Jakki is a keen motorsport
fan and hopes to be supporting the team again at Castle
Coombe on the 19th and 20th June.
"Snetterton is a meeting we will want to forget, its
good that Castle Coombe is so soon after. It will give us
a chance to get out there, have some fun and
put this weekend out of our minds," said Rob Horsfield.
